The project
Africa Stuttering.org is currently an Internet portal aimed at educating Africans about stuttering. In the near future, it will become a federation in which join the different groups of self Help present on the African continent.
Africa Stuttering.org is the brainchild of Guy Cédric MBOUOPDA with the support of Mr Joseph LUKONG, chairman of the SCAC (Speak Clear Association of Cameroon) and Secretary General of the ISA (International Stuttering Association).
The idea started from the observation that most self help groups in Africa do not communicate much with each other and function independently. We thought that in creating this portal, each level association of African countries to accede to exchange and share their experiences about stuttering
The portal will enable people who stutter:
1.Better to know each other
The people who stutter often have perceptions and negative feelings about their stuttering and themselves:
• Shame: the people who stutter are often ashamed of their condition and make enormous efforts to try to hide it.
• Guilt: people who stutter often feel guilty for not achieving goals that they would be quite within their reach… if only they had a good speech.
• Frustration: Stuttering feel frustrated by their inability to communicate effectively with others.
• Poor self-esteem: stuttering often induces a feeling of being an incompetent.
We want to through this project enable people who stutter to pass over such considerations as the most important for a Mute is to recognize his disability.
2. Inform
Many people who stutter or parents of children who stutter do virtually nowhere to learn to solve their problems. On the portal we can disseminate information-oriented people affected by stuttering in their search for solution
3. Share
The exchange of information and experiences between persons who stutter and possibly self help groups will be facilitated by:
• The availability of vital information on the website;
• The periodic publication of the situation of different projects;
